Gephart Funeral Home - Bay CityBob passed away at his home on Monday, August 18, 2025 with his family by his side at the age of 94. The son of the late Adam and Jane (MacGregor) Heinz was born April 22, 1931 in Bay City, Michigan. Bob was a long-time member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War and was retired from General Motors after 39 years of service. He enjoyed golfing, boating, traveling to Arizona, working in his home workshop and spending time with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Wegener, whom he married on May 23, 1953; four children, Debra (Karl) Peterson, Cheryl Blank, Susan Hammerbacher and Wendy Heinz; four grandchildren, Ashley (Thomas) Billings, Stephanie (Jeffrey) Petrimoulx, Amy (Casey) Vietengruber and Brooke (Ryan) Madigan and six great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Esseltine and two sons-in-law, Gary Hammerbacher and Kenneth Blank.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Michelle with McLaren Hospice for her compassion and care that she gave to Bob.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Pastor James Bare. Private interment will take place at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the Gephart Funeral Home on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church.
