It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert E. Andrews from Anniston, Alabama who died peacefully at home on June 2nd, 2024, at the age of 72 following a long courageous battle with lung cancer. Robert was born on April 17th, 1952, in Gadsden, Alabama and graduated from Emma Sansom High School. A devoted father and husband, he is survived by his loving wife of 45 1/2 years, Lajuana (Payne) Andrews and the light of his life, daughter Danielle Andrews, his sister-in-law Kim (Payne) Martin, brother-in-law Mack Martin and nephew Andrew Martin, who supported and loved him throughout his struggles and triumphs. He was preceded in death by his parents Calvin and Clara (Elrod) Andrews of Alabama City, His father and mother-in-law James and Jolyne Payne of Glencoe, His sister Phyllis (Andrews) Riepele, his half-brother Jimmy Handy, His half-sisters, Elaine Handy, Dean Casey, Alice Lomax, and Shirley Cannon. Robert was center manager and cornerstone of Aamco Transmissions in Anniston Al for 43 years. He left an indelible mark on the hearts of his employees, customers, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Robert was a man of simple pleasures who loved nothing more than a home cooked meal at the table with his family, watching Alabama football, and always took pride in helping a friend in need. He loved the outdoors, especially working in the yard, socializing with his friends and neighbors, and watching period dramas with his daughter. He never met a stranger and will continue to live on in the joy and kindness he inspired in the many lives he touched. Special thanks to Damion Willis for uplifting and supporting and our family before and during his health battles, childhood friend Julius Riddlespur who offered a kind word and shoulder to lean on throughout his life, especially when it was most needed, and special family friends Chris, Shylia, and Cameron Brown for their warm presence and generosity through the years. We also extend our gratitude to Dr. Grana, Leigh-Anne McCareeth, and Dr. Patel of Anniston, Al as well as the doctors of UAB: Adam Kole, Mark Harrigan, and John Fiveash for the superior care and compassion that was extended to him and our family.
