Robert Reginald Baskey "Bob", 87, of Rootstown, passed away peacefully at home on August 11, 2025. Bob was born in Canton, Ohio on June 7, 1938 to the late Ralph and Doris Baskey. After graduating from East High School, Bob spent a few years working for the United States Postal Service, before beginning his career at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he retired after 35 years of service.
In his younger years, Bob was a Mason. He loved building custom cars and traveling to car shows. One of his most prized possession was his purple 1950 chopped custom Merc. He was also an avid golfer on numerous leagues. He also loved spending time outdoors, camping with family and friends and cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events. Bob had a soft spot for animals and loved his many dogs and horses.
Bob will always be remembered for his kind and gentle soul. No one ever had a bad word to say about Bob and the world has lost a little of its light with his passing.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Joyce Baskey; and his brother, Gilbert Baskey.
Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, Michele Baskey; children, Lori (Doug) Tibbitts, Terri (Mike) Meeks, John (Monica) Baskey, Christine Baskey, and Tommy (Carol) Baskey; stepson, Travis (Bev) Wise; grandchildren, Katie, Christopher, Anthony, Bobby (Katie), Jason (Trisha), Jocelyn, and Will; and six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and many good friends, including Barbara Maxwell and "Honest Charlie".
Family and friends may visit on Sunday, August 17, 2025 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44305. Bob will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Burial Park, 3653 W. Market St., Akron , Ohio 44333 on Monday, August 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Hospice of the Western Reserve, or an animal shelter of one's choice.
