Robert F. "Scratch" Bastarache, 75, of Middleboro, passed away Friday, September 13, 2024 at St. Joseph Manor in Brockton, after a courageous 8 year battle with cancer.
He was the husband of Marilyn (Moloney) (Greeley) Bastarache.
Born on October 2, 1948 in Acushnet, he was the son of the late Frederick and Ida (Kane) Bastarache.
Robert was a U.S. Army veteran and a detective for the New Bedford Police Department. After retiring, was self-employed as a private investigator.
Robert has countless friends and in High School he was affectionately known as "Scratch". He raised and trained homing pigeons and enjoyed collecting coins and stamps. Robert also enjoyed attending musical performances like The Lion King and Wicked, professional football games, golf, reading and photography.
In addition to his wife Marilyn, Robert is survived by his sons Brian Bastarache and his partner, Melissa and Eric Bastarache and his partner Barbara; his stepchildren Erin Devine and her husband Eric and Joshua Greeley; his grandson Theodore Devine; his brother Dennis and his wife Annette; his sister Janet McDermott and her husband Michael; and his two nieces, two nephews, and their children.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 24th in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 17 Main St., (Rt.105) Lakeville at 10:00 AM followed by interment in Central Cemetery, East Bridgewater. A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, September 23rd from 4:00-7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Wounded Warrior Project or Disabled American Veterans.
