Robert Lee Dodson (Bob), 92, of Plainfield, passed into the presence of the Lord on September 2. Bob was a near lifelong resident of the west side of Indianapolis, residing in his later years in Plainfield, Indiana. He served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department for 39 years, retiring in 1994. He was appointed to the department in 1955 making him the oldest living deputy, in terms of appointment, at the time of his passing. During his time as a deputy, he served in road patrol, then later as Lieutenant in charge of the detention center of General Hospital (now Eskenazi), and a detective in the warrants division. Prior to his appointment to the Sheriff’s department, he served in the United States Army with the sixth armored division at Ft. Leonard Wood during the Korean war. He was a graduate of Ben Davis High School and was fond of big band music, Pete Fountain, old movies, and spending time with friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Cordelia Dodson, several brothers and sisters (Lemuel, Ella, Jess, Brownie, Mary Rue, Ned, and two twin brothers who passed at birth) and his wife of 36 years, Wanda. He is survived by his two sons: Brandt (Karla) and Scott, two grandsons: Christopher (Evelyn) and Sean (Brittani), a brother: Dan, and multiple nieces and nephews. Our thanks to Diane and Jean who provided special care and concern to their uncle Bob and to the kindness of the staff of Demaree Crossing Assisted living and Paradigm Health. Services will be on Sunday, September 8th at Hampton Gentry Funeral Home, 106 Shaw Street, Plainfield, Indiana. Visitation will be 1-2 pm with service starting at 2 pm. Burial will be conducted during a private service on Monday at Floral Park.
