Bob passed away on December 4th from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He was at home surrounded by his family with Monday Night Football softly on in the background. He was 80 years old.
Bob was born on April 20th, 1943, in Colfax, WA to Robert L Nick and Vivian (Empting) Nick. The family moved to Elbow Lake, Thief Rivers Falls and settled in Princeton, MN. Even as a young boy, Bob was happiest with a ball or piece of athletic equipment in his hands. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1961. A gifted athlete, Bob was inducted into the Princeton Hall of Fame in 2007. Bob attended Concordia College in Moorhead from 1961-1965. During his years at Concordia, he once again enjoyed and excelled in athletics. He was the quarterback of the 1964 football team that became national champions. He was MVP of the conference. Although he appreciated the accolades, he was a team player and it was the life-long friendships of teammates that were most valuable to him. His teammates voted him captain of the 1964-65 basketball team. When Spring came, he was the catcher for the Cobber baseball team. In the Summer, he played softball. Bob was a respected high school football and basketball official for many years. in 2006, Bob was inducted into the Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame as an athlete and coach. In 2009, he received the Distinguished Service Award for significant contributions to his institution and the MIAC conference. In 2009, Bob retired after 43 years of service to the college that was so very special to him.
On August 6, 1972 he married Connie (Braun) and they made their home in Moorhead. They raised their two kids and their door was always open to Concordia students. Bob and Connie enjoyed travels to Europe, Mexico, an Alaskan cruise, winters going south, but the best place to be was the lake with family and friends.
Left to celebrate his life are: Connie (his wife of 51 years), his children Ali and Rob (Kari), his grandsons Parker, Jamison, and Connor, his siblings Betty (Dean), Carole (David), Linda, and Bruce (Chris), sister- in- law Sharon, nieces and nephews Lisa, Jason, Mike, Laura, Sarah, Scott, Sara, Julie, DeAnn, a large extended family and all of the “kids” that played for him.
On Friday December 15th there will be a visitation at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead from 5-7 PM with sharing time beginning at 7:00.
On Saturday December 16th a memorial service will be held at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead at 1:00.
A livestream of both the sharing time and the memorial service will be available here on Bob's page.
