Age 85, of Varysburg, passed away on May 16, 2024 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw.
He was born on March 28, 1939 in Warsaw, son of the late Eldon and Bernice Collister Calkins. Robert had a love for farming at an early age. He worked on the family farm and was a member of the Future Farmers of America during his high school years. After graduating from Attica High School in 1957 he continued to work on the family farm, eventually taking over as owner and operator. Robert was president of the board at Westco Milk Co-op and also served on boards at both Sorrento and Dairylea. He was a member of various horse riding clubs and was involved in the Attica Rodeo. Robert also worked as the town assessor in Orangeville for many years. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and most recently was a member of the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facilities’ Nursing Home Council.
Predeceased along with his parents are his wife of 48 years, Lois Calkins, who passed away in 2005; his sister-in-law, Julia Barone; his brother-in-law, Russ Barone and his son-in-law, James McCallum.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Putnam of Varysburg, Diane (William) Wilkinson of Warsaw, Sherry (Randy) Dersham of Pavilion, Deborah (Jon) Wolak of Varysburg; his son, Douglas (Mary Ann) Calkins of Varysburg; his sister-in-law Marjorie (Emmet) Van Der Burgh of Williamson; Thirteen grandchildren; Fourteen great-grandchildren; Four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 4 PM- 7 PM at Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Robert’s funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, May 20, 2024 at the funeral home and his burial will be made in Johnsonburg Cemetery immediately following his funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility, Activities Department, 400 N.
