Robert P. Colgan, 87, of Estero, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, at the Life Care Center of Estero. Born in the Bronx, New York, on December 28, 1937, he was the beloved son of the late Robert and Dorothea (Doherty) Colgan.
A proud graduate of Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, NY, Robert went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. His early promise and determination led to a successful and dynamic career in sales and advertising. Robert held executive sales roles at prominent organizations such as Young & Rubicam, Life Magazine, Mazda, and the Kenyan and Elkhart Advertising Agency. His leadership and charisma were hallmarks of his professional life.
Robert was also deeply involved in his community and country. He served proudly in the U.S. Army, where he managed the officers' club, and was active in civic leadership as president of the Young Republicans in New York City. In his later years, he continued his commitment to service as president of the Seagate Condominium Association.
Outside of work and service, Robert enjoyed the outdoors and was passionate about golfing and sailboating, pursuits that brought him both challenge and joy.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, Lynn M. Colgan, who passed away on February 20, 2018, as well as by his brother James Colgan.
Robert is survived by his brothers John (Roberta) Colgan of Greenwood, SC, and Thomas (Cathy) Colgan of Naperville, IL; his sister-in-law Lois Colgan of Naperville, IL; his niece Colleen Bakker; and his nephew Thomas Colgan, Jr.
A private service will be held this fall at South Florida National Cemetery, where Robert will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Lynn. His life, marked by integrity, leadership, and love, will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

I met Bob about a year ago and visited with him at Life Care Center first, with our Pastor (now deceased), Fr. Hugh, and then later, on my regular visits to LCC. As a Visitation and Eucharistic Minister for Our Lady of Light Catholic Community, I was able to meet and talk with Bob who was a long-time parishioner. He was always a delight. He had great stories of his most interesting life, a positive attitude, and a wry smile. The community at Life Care as well at OLOL will miss him and his very loving spirit. RIP.
