Robert E. Fitch, age 102, of Avon, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Avon where he was a resident for his entire life. He graduated from Avon High School in 1941. Robert was the 5th generation owner of Fitch Farms in Avon and spent his life there. He also worked as a security guard for General Motors for 17 years, retiring in 1980. He was still at the Market enjoying the customers. He was a former member of the Ohio Vegetable and Potato Growers Association. Though he enjoyed working on the farm and traveling in his camper, he never missed a Lorain County Fair, especially the horse pull. He served on Avon Council and was ever present at Avon athletic events, especially basketball. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren and great-grandchild play. Robert won the Frankie Smitek Award from Avon Hall of Fame for his dedication to Avon sports. Survivors include his daughter, Mary (Harry) Selner of Hudson, sons, William (Donna) of Avon, Richard (Rita) of Avon and David(Nancy) of Houston, Texas, stepsons, Thomas Achtziger of Strongsville, Richard Achtziger of Avon, David Nagy of North Ridgeville, 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Frances (nee Henry) who was a teacher and guidance counselor at Avon High School, 2nd wife, Mary (nee Hayden), parents, Leslie and Garnet (nee Peak) Fitch and his sister, Margaret Alexander. Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Frances Fitch Memorial Scholarship c/o Avon Local Schools, 35600 Bentley Dr., Avon, OH 44011
