Obituary published on Legacy.com by Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Care - Louisville on Oct. 24, 2024.
Robert Edward Flores, beloved husband of Maria Stepp Flores, surrounded by love, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Born on July 14, 1961, he grew up in San Antonio, TX. He often talked about fond memories of spending time with his siblings, his grandmother, and how Texas had the best barbacoa.
Robert attended John Jay High school, Texas A&M college, served in U.S. Coastguard, and then became a welder and instructor at Plant Vogel. When Robert was asked about his time in service, he would respond with "It's the best job I ever had!". He was proud to have been in U.S. Coast Guard Group of Monterey, California, 1982-1988. During his time in service, he received the Good Conduct Medal and Expert Rifle Medal. He loved to talk about his time aboard the USCG Cutter Rush. "Semper Paratus! "
Robert was also proud to be a husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, foster parent, and friend. He wasn't just those, he was a light and a pillar to many.
He enjoyed the simple things in life. He was happiest when he was with his family, enjoying good food together, sharing jokes and big belly laughs, soaking in long hugs, listening to loud music and bad karaoke, sipping hot coffee over good morning conversation, watching football, and standing around a hot grill. He loved sitting at a dinner table full of people he loved and cared for. It made him so happy to see everyone healthy and together. He would sometimes say "I just love to watch the children eat. I don't know why but it just makes me happy to watch them eat". He also enjoyed golfing, shooting, exploring a good flea market with his wife, and anything Batman.
Robert had a natural ability for connecting with people. He was known to have a big heart and good sense of humor. He had a knack for picking out the one person in the room that needed a listening ear or a reminder that "I see you and you're not alone". He knew just how to do that, too. He felt a great responsibility to protect, defend, and save. Throughout his life, he accomplished that mission in so many ways, so many times. He did a job well done.
He is loved greatly and will be forever deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who know and love him.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Faustino Flores & Juanita Lopez, brother, Tino Flores and is survived by his wife: Anna Maria Stepp Flores; son: Robert Edward Flores, Jr.; daughter: Amanda Flores (Seth Gray); son: Connor Flores; stepsons: Curtis Tanner (Leah), Daniel Tanner (Heather), and Cole Rachels; stepdaughters: Molly Harper (Adam), Tori Giraldo (Rob), and Alex Delgado; sisters: Rachel Medina (Greg) and Milisa Whitley; brothers: Ruben Flores, Roland Flores, Michael Flores and Andrew Flores; best friend: Jarrod "Bird" Jordan (Lyndsey Gray); 17 grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends.
