Robert Gary Folden, 78, of Redlands, California passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024. Gary was born in 1946 to Robert and Bernice Folden in Los Angeles. He was their third child following the births of his sisters Leilani and Sharon. Gary attended San Bernardino High School, San Bernardino Valley College, San Diego State University, and graduated with a marketing degree from Fullerton State University in 1973. Gary was a Boy Scout in his youth earning an Eagle Scout Award in1961.
Gary enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1970, traveling to Quantico, Virginia for Officer Candidates School. He was stationed at Okinawa and Vietnam, honorably discharged from active duty in 1973, and honorably discharged from the reserve as a Captain in 1975. While in the Marine Corps Gary earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and the Pistol and Rifle Marksman Medal. Gary went on to become a partner at DAWCO, a general construction company that worked on military bases.
While at San Diego State University, Gary met his future wife, Nancy Bello. They married in Inglewood, California at the Episcopal church in 1971 and remained devoted to each other for 53 years. Together they have two loving daughters, Amy and Janet. Gary loved his family dearly. He participated in all his girls' activities, and while coaching AYSO soccer he earned the Coach of the Year award in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughters Amy (Dennis) O'Neil and Janet (Nick) Weisz, his four grandchildren, Jake O'Neil, Halle O'Neil, Hannah Weisz and Cole Weisz, his sister, Sharon Palmer, and many friends and extended family. Gary lived a lifetime of love and will remain in our hearts forever. A Celebration of Life will be held at Cortner Chapel 221 Brookside Ave, Redlands, on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 1:00. Immediately following, the Celebration of Life will continue at the Mitten Building 345 North Fifth St STE A, Redlands. Private family internment will be held at Riverside National Cemetery.
