Robert John Joseph Fritz
September 28, 1942 - September 26, 2025
Robert Fritz, 82, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025, at his home in Houston, Texas, embraced by the love of his family.
Robert was born in New Orleans on September 28, 1942, to Joseph and Eunice Fritz. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather answering to many names. Robert to his parents, siblings, aunt, and cousins; Rob to his wife; Dad to his sons; Pere and Pé-Pé to his grandchildren; and Bob to his friends and co-workers. One friend covered it all - RobbyBob.
Loving his faith and learning, Robert attended St. Joseph Seminary College, and Notre Dame Seminary earning a degree in philosophy. He proceeded to Loyola Law School graduating first in his class, Magna cum Laude in 1969, then served as a law clerk to Federal District Judge Frederick J. R. Heebe from 1969 - 1971. Pursuing the academic aspect of law, Robert received a fellowship to Columbia University Law School entering the J.S.D. Program, studying a year each in New York, and Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium. He returned to New Orleans to teach at Loyola Law School and there met his future wife, Karen Sintes. Robert's career turned to energy, leading to 38 years as in-house counsel for Mobil Oil, ExxxonMobil, and Vice-President Legal for Woodside Energy, Australia. During this tenure, he was delighted to share the experiences of living abroad with Karen and their two sons spending three years in The Hague, Netherlands and Jakarta, Indonesia. Once more, returning to New Orleans, for 12 years, he and Karen relocated to Houston with the merger of Exxon and Mobil. Over those many years, business took him to London, Tokyo, Seoul, Perth, Astana Kazakhstan and places in between. He never stopped relishing the many experiences he had. An emeritus member of the Louisiana Bar Association and the Texas Bar Association, he genuinely enjoyed the work of the law.
Robert was an enthusiastic opera fan, football fan and cheered for all teams with a Manning on them. He will be remembered for the love of his faith, love of learning, dry wit, and the ability to see to the heart of an issue, even when living with the e ects of Alzheimer's. Above all, he loved his family. The lesson he wanted to pass on to all he loved is life is a process of becoming. From birth forward, we are continually learning and growing until our final moments; and only at the end are we complete. Life is a collection of works, and Robert's opus is masterful.
Robert is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen Sintes Fritz, sons, John-Patrick McGinnis Fritz of Los Angeles, CA, and Andrew Sintes Fritz of Needham, MA; brother, Joseph W. Fritz, Jr. (Pamela) New Orleans, and four much loved grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins who held a special place in his heart. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph W. Fritz, Sr., Eunice McGinnis Fritz, brother, Kenneth P. Fritz, and sister, Elizabeth Fritz McConnell.
The family would like to thank Robert's caregiver, Dawn Adams who brought skill, kindness and humor to him in his last year, and to Gentiva Hospice Care in Houston.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church, 130 Baronne Street,
