Robert J Guthrie

Robert James Guthrie (Bob), a proud veteran, passed away peacfully at home April 12th after a long battle with cancer. The son of Marjorie A Pallante and Leslie F Guthrie and brother to Leslie Guthrie II. Bob grew up in Long Island NY, attended South High School before moving to Sussex County, NJ after his military service. Mr. Guthrie served his country in US Army, 82nd Airborne Division in the Vietnam War. He was Staff Sergeant and awarded the Bronze Star and Combat infantryman Badge. He was an active member in the Newton VFW Post 5360, the American Legion Post 86 and employed as an electrician. He is survived by his son, Robert James Guthrie Jr. of Hackettown, NJ, his loving daughter, Janet Ann Guthrie of Blairstown, NJ, and 6 remarkably talented athletic, artistic, and driven grandchildren. He will be greatly missed for his quiet strength, humor, loyalty to his friends, family, and comrades in arms. Burial will be held in Hope, NJ with a private service. A celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion honoring Bob at a later date. His loved ones will remember him on the water fishing, tending to his garden, love of animals, being surrounded by nature, and a cold bud in hand.
