Robert Michael Hawkins

Robert Michael "Mike" Hawkins, 69, a native of LaGrange, Georgia died on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at his home in Roanoke, Alabama.
Mike is survived by his beautiful wife of nearly 48 years, Susan McCord Hawkins; three daughters, Ashley Hawkins, April Hawkins Shattuck (Jeff), and Afton Hawkins Pownall (Jeremy), and five grandchildren Parker and Carson Shattuck, Marion Michael, Maeleigh, and Maggie Su Pownall.
For the past thirty years, Mike served as the pastor of Lanier Baptist Church in Lanett, Alabama alongside Susan who supported Mike faithfully and provided beautiful music on the piano during his ministry.
Known as a jack-of-all-trades, Mike mastered skills in carpentry, large equipment/machinery, and most all areas of construction. He owned his own construction company, Hawkins Construction, before turning the office buildings into his wife's daycare, Susan's Early Learning Center, still in operation in LaGrange. He and his wife, Susan, were formerly owners and operators of the Parker House gift and antique store in Wedowee, Alabama.
Mike enjoyed hunting, bush hogging, working on his home and property, watching Andy Griffith, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a John Deere collector and enjoyed working on antique trucks and vehicles along with caring for his land.
His greatest life accomplishment was developing the land and home that he and Susan have lived on for over 20 years. Mike poured his heart and soul into creating a beautiful and welcoming home for his family to enjoy.
Services for Mr. Hawkins will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand Chapel with Pastor Max McCord officiating. Family will receive friends on Sunday at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 pm until service hour.
