Robert Heinz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Behr's Funeral Home on Jan. 4, 2026.
Robert (Bob) Gerald Heinz, 93, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Luther Manor in Dubuque surrounded by his family. A memorial service for Bob will be held at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, Dubuque on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., with a service at 10:30 a.m., with Deacon Jim Luksetich officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Bob was born in Dubuque on June 9, 1932, to Bernard and Veronica (Spiegel) Heinz. As an only child, Bob enjoyed the attention of his parents, his dog Rusty, and the camaraderie of his close friends, many cousins, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Bob attended Nativity Grade School in Dubuque, Loras Academy, and two years at Loras College before he was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War from 1951 – 1953, and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 - 1954. Bob married Marilyn Callahan on June 16, 1956, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque. Bob and Marilyn had 4 children: Suzanne, David, Julie and Vikki. They were married for 65 years, and enjoyed lots of time and adventures with their six grandchildren.
Bob's career began in Dubuque in the electronics business, at both Tri-City Radio and Radio Trade Supply. Later, he transitioned to working alongside his son in the family business, Callahan Dry Ice, and later, Safety Services. He appreciated all the friendships he made while working in these businesses.
Bob had many lifelong friends who he called "the gang," who took trips to Las Vegas, and enjoyed many dinners and outings together throughout life. He loved to play euchre, and he found joy with his many good friends at the Applewood II Apartments. He was an active parishioner at St. Patrick's Church for many years, which included being an usher, working with the St. Vincent DePaul Society, and helping alongside his wife at the Wednesday night meal for the poor.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn in 2021, his father and mother-in-law Cy and Marcella (McCullough) Callahan, as well as numerous family members.
He is survived by:
4 children,
Suzanne (Dr. Wesley) Parker, Cherokee, IA,
David Heinz, Freeport, IL,
Julie (Bill) Tindell, Clive, IA
and Vikki (Sean) Acton, Maquoketa, IA;

Memorials can be directed to: St. Patrick's Church, 1425 Iowa St. Dubuque, IA 52001, or Hospice of Dubuque, 1670 JFK Road, Dubuque, IA 52001.
