With a heart as warm as his infectious smile, Robert J. "Bob" Herkert left a legacy of love and laughter when he passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, in Philadelphia, PA. Born on September 21, 1945, in Darby, PA, Bob's journey through life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community.
Bob's early years were filled with the close-knit bonds of family and friends. As the son of the late John and Alma States Herkert, and brother to the late Helene Conroy, he grew up with a deep sense of loyalty and care for those around him. Bob's heart found its match when he met and married Theresa Weber, his beloved wife of 55 years. Together, they built a family and a home where laughter was the cornerstone, and love, the foundation.
His life was enriched by the joy of his children, Mark J. Herkert and his wife Lisa, and Kristin A. Herkert Boyer. Bob's role as a father was one he cherished deeply, instilling values of kindness and resilience in his children. The legacy of his spirit continued to bloom with his adored grandchildren, Daniel Boyer, Emily Boyer, Gwyneth Herkert, Ella Herkert, and Claire Herkert, all of whom he loved with every ounce of his being.
Bob served his country with pride as a U.S. Navy veteran, an experience that shaped his life with discipline and a profound sense of duty. After his service, he continued to contribute to his community through his work. He spent many years behind the wheel as a driver for Coca-Cola Bottling and, upon retiring, he found joy in driving a bus for the Interboro School District, where he was a familiar and friendly face to many.
Bob's interests and personality were as expansive as his generosity. He enjoyed spending time with his family more than anything, always ready with a joke or a smile to light up the room. His great sense of humor was a gift that he shared freely, bringing laughter and comfort to all who knew him. Ever the selfless man, he was always available to help a family member, friend, or stranger with anything they needed, no matter how big or small the task.
Bob's selflessness was the golden thread that wove through the tapestry of his life. He was devout in his faith and was a proud member of St Gabriel's Church. He lived not for accolades or recognition, but for the simple joy of giving to others. His legacy is not just in the works he did, but in the countless lives he touched with his kindness.
As we say goodbye to Robert J. "Bob" Herkert, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a man well-loved. He has left an indelible imprint on the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to cross his path. Though he may have set sail for his final voyage, the wake of his love and laughter will ripple through time, reminding us of the preciousness of each moment and the beauty of a life dedicated to others.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral on Friday from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM at the Church of Saint Gabriel 233 Mohawk Ave., Norwood. Followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Bob's name to the School House Senior Center 600 Swarthmore Ave., Folsom, Pa. 19033 would be appreciated.
