Robert "Bob" Jira, of Star Neva, died on June 12, 2023 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was 87 years old. He was born on January 24, 1936 in Antigo a son of Joseph and Helen (Potempa) Jira. He married Carol Igl on June 16, 1962 at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. She preceded him in death on October 11, 2022, after 60 years of marriage.
He was a graduate of Antigo High School, class of 1954.
Bob was a dairy farmer until the age of 40. He then worked as an implement mechanic and parts manager until his retirement in 2003.
He was a member of St. Wencel Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and part of the Parish Council. He was a member of Catholic Financial Fraternal and a 4-H Leader for the Mayflower 4-H club for 20 years.
Bob was a fireman for the Rural Fire Control for many years receiving the Fireman of the Year Award in 1987. He also served on the board of directors for many years.
He enjoyed making firewood, hunting, ice fishing, and listening to Polka music.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean (Gary) Jenicek of Freedom and Mary (Mike) Meuleman of Iron River, MI; three sons, Joe Jira of Little Chute, Tony Jira of Neva, and Chris (Mary) Jira of Neva; nine grandchildren, Sabrina, Camille, Bailey, Holly, Riley, Derek, Lissette, Kevin, and Katie; a sister, Joanne (Daniel) Rosio of Antigo.
In addition to his parents and wife, Carol, he was preceded in death by a son, Rob Jira.
A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 20, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Wencel Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place at St. Wencel Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, June 20 from 10 to 11 a.m. all at the Bradley Funeral Home. A parish wake service will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
