Funeral service to celebrate Mr. Robert E. McCowin will be held at 12:00PM Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe with Rev. Keith Jeselink officiating. Following the service Robert will be laid to rest in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until 12:00PM Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Mulhearn Funeral Home providing an opportunity for friends and family to pay their respects.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Robert E. McCowin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Robert peacefully departed this world on October 7, 2023, at the age of 96, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Born on February 25, 1927, Robert was a pillar of the community, known for his unwavering kindness, generosity, and dedication to family. He was a Korean War veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Army. After his Honorable Discharge, Robert went on to build a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful connections throughout the oil fields all over the world.
Robert’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Lela Myrtle McCowin; sister, Lannie Thompson; children, Jettie Stanley, and Roy who preceded him in death, and survived by Beth Lively and husband Robert, Bobby McCowin and wife Rita, and Robbie Hawsey and husband Andy; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Robert was also preceded in death by his parents, Tonzie and Etta McCowin; brothers, Tonzie, Jr. and Harvey McCowin; and son-in-law, Roy Stanley.
Robert E. McCowin will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and the enduring love he shared with his family and friends. His spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched, and his memory will forever be cherished. May he rest in eternal peace.
The pallbearers will be Lance Hurt, Blake McCowin, Kevin Goyne, Don White, Caleb Wallace, Lance Klein, and Harrison Hurt. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Wilkerson, Larry McGowen, Cliff Junkin, Christian Glawson, and Noah Glawson.
The family would like to thank Azalea Estates for their excellent attention and care during the last few months of Robert’s life. Also, to St. Francis 6th floor staff and doctors who went beyond their regular job duties to provide care and comfort during the last three weeks of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital for his fondness of children.
