While in school, he was active with the Civil Air Patrol. On November 16, 1970, he entered the US Air Force proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge on July 1, 1974. He also operated a garbage collection business and had a great love for woodworking – especially building and selling wooden toys. Robert also enjoyed gardening. He was an active member of the Canton Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William Meacham.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025 at 3:00 PM in Fairview Cemetery, 86 County Route 53, Brasher Falls. There will be no prior calling hours. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Canton Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
