Robert C. Montgomery SR.

CALERA, ALABAMA – Robert C. Montgomery, Sr., 88, formerly of Muncie, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, November 28, 2023 at his son's home in Calera, AL.
He was born on July 4, 1935 in Fayette County, West Virginia, the son of Russell Robert and Mabel (McCormick) Montgomery and graduated from Maumee High School in Maumee, Ohio. He served his country honorably in the US Navy from 1955-1957. On February 27, 1960 in Maumee, Ohio, he married the love of his life, Janet Patricia Gray.
Robert worked for Indiana Steel and Wire in the shipping and receiving department of 30 years, until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of True Light Baptist Church and the American Legion.
He enjoyed woodworking, knife making and leather working. Robert also spent many hours serving his community by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in Muncie. He was actively involved with Muncie Southside High School Band Boosters and Southside Neighborhood Association.
Surviving are one son, Robert C. Montgomery, Jr. (wife, Karen) of Calera, AL; two daughters, Debra Delk (husband, Garth) of Carbondale, CO and Lisa French (husband, Tracy) of Selma; eight grandchildren, Angela Delk, Robert Montgomery III, Heather Long, Jonathan Delk, Patrick Lopez, Joseph Lopez, Captain Kristin Montgomery, USAF and PS3 Zachary Montgomery, USNR; six great-grandchildren, Christopher Long, Owen Long, Emily Long, Jaci Long, Madeleine Salz, and Amelia Delk; and one sister-in-law, Diana Montgomery of Toledo, OH.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Montgomery and his mother, Mabel Johnson; his wife of 59 years, Janet Patricia Montgomery on February 19, 2020; and two brothers, Donald Ray Montgomery, Sr. and Paul Johnson, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Dennis Trimble officiating. Burial will follow in Union-Windsor Cemetery, with military honors provided by the United States Navy.
