Robert Bernard Montgomery, beloved stepfather, "Papa," husband, and friend, passed away early Saturday morning, October 18, 2025, after courageously battling cancer for over a year. He was 59 years young.
Throughout his life, Robert was known for his kindness, humor, gentle spirit, and unwavering selflessness. Though he may not have been "Dad" by blood, he was by every measure of the heart a true gentle giant whose love knew no bounds. He was the best stepdad anyone could ask for; he was patient, caring, and always there when you needed him.
Robert was born on February 2, 1966, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and made his home in Meridian, Idaho. He was a devoted husband to Kerry Keenan and a proud stepfather to Alyssa (Devan), whom he loved as his own. He was "Papa" to his cherished grandchildren Graezlyn, Kaidyn, Auraelia, Oliver, and Rowan, who brought endless joy and laughter to his life.
He was the son of Wendie and Michael Montgomery, and brother to Mike C. Montgomery and Melissa Horeczy (Grant). He is preceded in death by his sister, Amy Ramirez, who passed away on July 5, 2022.
Robert grew up in
Boise, Idaho, where he attended Whitney Elementary, Campus Elementary, and East Junior High before graduating from Boise High School. He continued his education at the University of Idaho and Boise State University, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army before dedicating many years as a teacher, where he inspired and shaped the lives of countless students. Later in life, he found joy working for a beer and wine distribution center, a job he truly loved. He also worked at Bogus Basin, where his love of the outdoors and friendly nature made him well known and well loved. Robert had a gift for connecting with others and made friends wherever he went, everyone who met him loved him.
Robert had a zest for life and a deep love for adventure. He enjoyed traveling, football, coaching, skiing, golfing, cooking, riding his Harley, and listening to Jimmy Buffett. He loved good music, good food, and most of all spending time with his family and grandkids.
Robert's gentle nature and selfless heart touched everyone who knew him. He gave of himself freely, always offering help, laughter, and love without ever expecting anything in return. His warmth made everyone around him feel like family.
He leaves behind his beloved pets Einstein, Gizmo, Riley, and Bailey, who will miss him dearly. Robert now joins his furry companions Teeka, Abby, Sophia, and Gypsy beyond the pearly gates no doubt greeting them with love and laughter.
Robert is survived by his wife, Kerry Keenan; stepdaughter, Alyssa (Devan) and grandchildren, Graezlyn, Kaidyn, Auraelia, Oliver, and Rowan.
He is also survived by his parents, Wendie and Michael Montgomery, and siblings Mike C. Montgomery and Melissa Horeczy (Grant).
Robert "Papa" Montgomery will forever be remembered for his humor, kindness, and the way he made others feel seen and loved. His laughter, compassion, and big heart will never be forgotten. Though we miss him deeply, we find peace knowing his pain is gone and his spirit lives on through the love he shared with each of us.
