Robert A. Nelson Sr, 84, of Dowagiac, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on June 6, 1941, in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Robert L. and Margaret (Shane) Nelson. Bob was a graduate of Dowagiac Union High School, where he was affectionately known as "Duke". He was employed by Autocam Corp in Dowagiac for 36 years, until his retirement in 2005. During his time at Autocam, Bob owned and operated Nelson's Home Improvement for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing for many years in Canada and camping at his property in Richland. Bob was a long time Green Bay Packers fan.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Linda (Hartman) Nelson; three children, Bob Jr (Lupe) Nelson, Bill (Tina) Nelson, and Beth (Jim) Frost; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Cassie) Starr, Mara (Chase Camp) Nelson, Nicholas (Lilly Rissot) Starr, Ashley (Ryne) Willis and Matthew Nelson; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Addie; sister, Diana (Steve) Ausra; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Marilyn Myers; and brother, David Nelson.
A service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 6, at Clark Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, 405 Center St, Dowagiac, where friends may visit with his family from 2:00 PM until the time of service. Private inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac. Memorial contributions may be directed to Dowagiac Athletic Boosters or Dowagiac First United Methodist Church.
