Robert Pearson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes - Delta Chapel on Dec. 3, 2025.
Robert "Bob" Gary Pearson, 82, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away on November 30, 2025.
Born on May 11, 1943, in Pontiac, Michigan, Bob was the son of Harold and Gwendolyn (Brockman) Pearson. He graduated from Pontiac Northern High School and went on to earn his degree from Michigan State University, beginning a lifelong love for MSU that would become one of his defining passions.
Bob began his career in radio, working as a DJ throughout Michigan at WPON, WIBM, WILT (as "Bob Lansing"), WJIM, WILX, and WKNX. His warm voice, quick wit, and genuine curiosity drew listeners in and built relationships that lasted long after he left the studio. He later joined the State of Michigan, serving as a Public Information Officer for 30 years, where he was widely respected for his professionalism, integrity, and dedication. He also proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years beginning around 1966.
On May 3, 1969, Bob married the love of his life, Dorothy "Dotti" J. (Joseph) Pearson, after a fateful meeting while she was campaigning for Dick Sode and he was working the WITL Red Wagon. From that moment on, their story was "history." They shared 57 years together, including 56½ years of marriage, filled with laughter, adventures, and deep devotion.
Bob was the proud father of three children: Rob (Sandy) Pearson, Angie (Chris) Goodman, and Sarah (Kelly) Pearson. He was lovingly known as "Grandpa" to Grace (Shane), Abby (Jacob), Marian (Chase), Nathan, Kole, Sam, Cameron, Lindsay, and Carter, and a great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren, Addy, Emerson, and Lydia, who brought him immense joy.
A lifelong learner and storyteller, Bob's interests included history-especially the Civil War-reading, traveling, music, and creating videos. His love of history extended into volunteer work as a dedicated docent at the Michigan History Museum, where he enjoyed sharing stories and knowledge with visitors. He was also an avid sports enthusiast and a Michigan State University season ticket holder for nearly 40 years. Bob was a proud member of the MSU Downtown Coaches Boosters Club, MSU Rebounders, and the Athlos Society.
Bob had a gift for turning everyday moments into unforgettable stories. Among his legendary tales were calling Graceland and speaking with Vernon Presley on the day of Elvis's funeral, driving Stevie Wonder to the Michigan School for the Blind, and even having the opportunity to serve as actor Kim Richards' manager. His life was filled with remarkable encounters, and he shared them with humor, animation, and delight.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Gwendolyn Pearson; his in-laws Ann (Niznak) and Sheridan Joseph; and his lifelong best friend, Charles Pardee.

Bob will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a passionate storyteller, a proud Spartan, and a man who lived life with curiosity, generosity, and heart. His voice, laughter, and unforgettable stories will be cherished by all who knew him.
