Robert R. Reese, known affectionately as Bob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the age of 94, surrounded by his family in his home in Indianapolis. Born on December 24, 1930, in Indianapolis, Bob's life was a testament to his unwavering spirit and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life.
Bob's journey began as a student at Washington High School in Indianapolis, where he forged the values of hard work and dedication that would characterize his entire life. He carried these values into his professional career, working as a skilled meat cutter at Standard Grocery, A & P Grocery, and Kroger. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate his own grocery, "Reese's Market," on the west side of Indianapolis, where he was not just a proprietor but a friend to all who walked through his doors.
He shared over 53 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Shirley (Livers) Reese, a partnership built on mutual respect and love. Together, they raised a family that included their children, Debbie Kot (the late John), Deb Parsons (Craig), the late Charles Mariner (Stacey), Barbara Cravens (the late Mike), Patty Sparks (Matt Brown), and Michael Mariner (Kyle). He was a cherished brother to Danny Reese and the late Bruce Reese. Bob was a patriarch in the truest sense, surrounded by a large and loving family, including 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. His presence was a source of stability and joy, and his legacy will continue through the lives of those he touched.
An avid golfer, Bob enjoyed spending time on the green, a passion that was only rivaled by his love for his family. He absolutely loved spending time at "The Ridge" or the many other courses he played routinely. He also found joy in traveling, playing card games like bridge and euchre, and was an enthusiastic reader. His love for music often led him to the symphony, where he soaked in the melodies that mirrored the harmonious life he led. Bob's home was never without the pitter-patter of paws, as he adored both dogs and cats, and they, in turn, adored him. Bob's sense of humor was infectious, and he was known for his kindness and loving nature, qualities that made him a beloved figure in his community. His laughter was a balm to the soul, and his ability to find humor in life's challenges was a gift to all who knew him.
In his passing, Robert R. Reese leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the importance of family. He was a man who lived life fully, with kindness and a gentle spirit that will be deeply missed by all. As we bid farewell to Bob, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and memories that will forever warm the hearts of those he leaves behind.
