On December 9, 2024 Robert W. Ryant (age 96) stepped up to the plate of life one last time and proceeded to hit it out of the park! As he headed toward first he could hear the angels singing. As he hit second the heavens opened up and as he rounded third the cheers erupted to a deafening level and he knew he was headed home, where mom was waiting with open arms!
Our dad was a quiet, private man who never sought out accolades for good deeds done. He did good deeds his entire life simply because he was a good man. He was a man who stood up for truth, honesty and love of family.
Dad helped to raise four children that he loved deeply and now leaves behind. Barbara (Ralph) Schaefer of Elyria, Gayle (Richard) Nowakowski of Avon, Robert (Denise) Ryant of Brunswick and Beth (Paul) La Farciola of Vermilion. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Naomi (nee Crowley).
Dad leaves behind eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
From the streets of Cleveland, to Benedictine High School, the United States Marine Corp, and Ford Motor Company, dad had quite the exceptional journey through life.
Dad was a mentor to everyone he met in so many different avenues.
Dad was truly a passionate and inquisitive human, with a robust curiosity, a wry sense of humor and a pure zest for life!
One of dad's earliest passions was becoming an expert in marksmanship! He Competed for years and loved teaching his children and grandchildren. His Mentorship and patience made him ideal for the position!
Another passion of his was the joy and exhilaration of flight! Dad loved to fly. He obtained his private pilot's license and owned a Cessna 150 that he and mom would take up and fly around Camp Perry and the islands!
Sports, particularly softball, held a special place in dads heart! He played softball throughout his life and he was a proud member of the Huff n' Puff League throughout his seventies and eighties eventually stepping away when he turned ninety. After suffering a heart attack on the ball field when he was eighty-seven he proceeded to ride his motorcycle home before calling the ambulance! Once a Marine always a Marine!!
Dad was an avid motorcycle rider, touring Europe twice and going on a solo trip to New Zealand for an entire month! He rode his beloved bike up until his 90th birthday! He was made of tough stuff!!!
Even up until the end dad insisted on living in his own home and he took great solace in knowing that his children would honor his wishes.
While we will miss him beyond words and our hearts are breaking with this loss, we know that dad is back on his bike exploring the streets of gold, mom's arms around his waist and looking for an other opportunity to get in the game!
