Robert P. Schmidt age 90 of West Bend died peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at the Samaritan Health Center. He was born June 12, 1934 in Milwaukee to Ervin and Katherine (nee Hirstein) Schmidt. He was married to Joyce Mossburg for 25 years.
Bob worked at American Motors for 30 years, retiring at the age of 48. He was an avid Harley Davidson rider, and was still riding at the age of 88. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping and in his younger years he enjoyed deer hunting and snowmobiling. Later in life Bob loved spending the winters in Florida.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a long-time member of the West Bend Chapter 1398 Loyal Order of the Moose and he enjoyed spending time at the lodge.
Bob was a wonderful father to his four daughters and loved spending time with them. He also loved to throw a big birthday party every year and celebrate with family and friends.
He is survived by his four daughters: Rhonda Jean Schmidt of Dunedin, FL, Dawn (Dan) Giove of West Bend, Laura (James) Gruber of Kewaskum and Loretta (Steve) Lloyd of West Bend and five grandchildren: Jamie, John, Sarah (Sam), Katie (Sam) and Jake. He is further survived by his great-grandchildren Dominic, Hailey, Tiger Lily and Elsie, his very special friends Dennis Phillips and Cathy Riegert, nieces, a nephew other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ervin and Katherine Schmidt, his sister Dorothy Lloyd, his grandson Danny Callaway, his great-granddaughter Rozalynn Mapes and his nephew Robert Lloyd.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 14, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend with Rev. David Schoob officiating. The family will greet visitors at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. Inurnment, with military honors will take place in Washington County Memorial Park.
