Robert Lee Schrader, age 94, of
Reese, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Covenant Glen in Frankenmuth. Born on December 8, 1931, in
Saginaw, Michigan, Robert was the cherished son of the late Rudolph and Eveline (Redburn) Schrader, and his early years were lovingly spent in the community of Reese. Baptized on March 27, 1932, at Wadsworth Avenue Presbyterian Church, Robert's life was deeply rooted in faith and the values instilled in him from a young age.
A proud graduate of Reese High School, class of 1950, Robert carried the values of hard work and perseverance throughout his life. His dedication to his country was evident as he served with honor in the United States Army during the Korean War. On April 11, 1959, Robert's life was forever joined with that of his beloved wife, Eleanor Ruth Kamm, in a ceremony officiated by Rev. Carl Heilman at Trinity Lutheran Church. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership, spanning over six decades until Eleanor's passing on November 27, 2025.
Robert's professional life was marked by a 22-year tenure as a mechanic at General Motors, a role he performed with skill and dedication until his retirement. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate Schrader's Garage for many years, where he was known for his work ethic and the quality of his craftsmanship.
The true joy of Robert's life was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the recipients of his deep love and affection. An avid outdoorsman, Robert found solace and happiness in nature. He cherished the times spent at the family cabin on Cranberry Lake, where he could immerse himself in the tranquility of the surroundings. Fishing in Grindstone City and Oscoda was not merely a hobby but a treasured tradition he shared with his children. The family camping trips were filled with laughter, and storytelling.
Robert's prowess as a bowler was well-known, with his impressive 300 game being a testament to his skill and passion for the sport. His leadership was recognized as he served as a past president of the Reese Merchants League. Known for his friendly demeanor, Robert was a familiar sight riding around Reese on his bike, greeting neighbors and friends with a warm smile.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his sons, Jeffrey (Jackie) Schrader and Douglas Schrader; his adored grandchildren, Courtney (Kevin) Grasel, Emily (Lucas) Hagen, Steven (Lauren) Schrader, and Jared (Jodi) Schrader; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Camden, Beckham, Kinsley, Parker, Jack, Brady, Cameron, and Brooklyn. Robert's sister-in-law Carolyn Kamm, along with numerous nieces and nephews, will also hold his memory dear.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother Ken Schrader and his spouse Elaine Schrader, as well as his brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Marjorie) Kamm, Marlene (Dave) Ellen, Wilmer Kamm, Lillian (Arthur) French, and Darlene (Henry) Feit.
A private family service will be held on January 7, 2026, where Robert will be laid to rest at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Reese, next to his beloved Eleanor. Full military honors will be conducted by both the Reese American Legion Post and the United States Army.
