Robert Lee “Bob” Silvers Sr., 90, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away May 30, 2025. He was born on December 29, 1934, to the late Clarence and Katherine (Hauseman) Silvers in Dayton, Ohio.
Bob was a retired Executive Publisher, Senior Vice President, and Religion Editor for the Saturday Evening Post for 41 years. Bob’s home church was Calvary Temple of Indianapolis (Assemblies of God). He was a lay speaker and gospel vocalist for churches, rallies, banquets, luncheons, group meetings, conferences, and senior events for many years. Along with his wife Joyce, Bob served eighteen years as praise and worship leaders and former board members for Friends Fellowship of Indiana, a ministry to women incarcerated, providing music programs at the Indiana Women’s Prison, the Rockville Correctional Facility, and at Wheeler Mission in Indianapolis. They have guest-hosted local TBN Praise the Lord TV programs, co-hosted the Phipps Gospel Sing TV program, and are co-founders of Senior Adult Music Ministry (The Singing Silvers).
Some of Bob’s other past activities include him serving on the editor’s panel for Bill Graham conference, member of the Board of Directors for Gospel Music Association (78-85), guest appearance on the 700 Club, local radio shows in various cities, guest host for the Dr. Summerall show in the early 80’s, guest speaker and soloist at Central Bible College, lay pastor and home group leader at Calvary Temple and had articles appearing in the Pentecostal Evangel, The Christian Citizen and the Christian Writer magazines.
Bob is survived by his wife, Joyce (Smith) Silvers; children, Robert Silvers Jr. (Tracy), Tonja Morris (Rick), Bryan Silvers (Lori); stepchildren, Mike Fisher (Stacey), Shellie Butrum; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday, June 4, 2025, 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel.
Funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm.
Private burial to immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the charity of choice.
