Our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at The Roosevelt House, with his family at his side. Age 92 years.
The son of the late Everette and Mildred (Brubaker) Smith, Bob was born on May 29, 1931, in Saginaw, Michigan. He married the love of his life, Allegra “Jake” Wylie, on September 27, 1952. Bob and Jake shared 71 wonderful years together. She preceded him in death on February 11, 2024. Together, they lovingly nurtured their children while farming. Bob worked at Dow Chemical, retiring after 44 years of loyal and dedicated service. He was a member of The Red Cap Rattlers Hunting Club, and had a passion for fishing and hunting. Bob cherished the time spent with his friends camping, fishing, and enjoying the lively tunes of a polka band. His passion for gardening, farming, and tending to his apple orchard exemplified his love for the outdoors. He had a remarkable talent for fixing anything that came his way, and took great pleasure in his time spent tinkering in his workshop. Bob also found joy and relaxation at the cabin in Houghton Lake with his family. He will fondly be remembered for his light-hearted banter and bringing smiles to those around him.
Surviving are his son and daughters, Kevin Smith, Michelle (Gary) Ratti, Julie (Mark) Rohde; daughter-in-law, Linda Smith; grandchildren, Melony (Jacob) Jeske, Jacob (Megan) Rohde, Jordan (Beth) Rohde, Josh (Tessa) Rohde, Josh (Bridget) Smith; five great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Raymond, Shirley, Joann. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his son, Craig Smith.
The family would like to extended a heartfelt thank you to the staff of The Roosevelt House and The Care Team Hospice, for their kind and compassionate care of Bob.
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at W. L.
