Robert Eugene Smock, currently of Bogart, GA and previously of Hephzibah, GA, died on October 6, 2025 at the age of 88. Robert was the son of Byron L. Smock and Gertrude Thola Smock. Robert was born January 21, 1937 and spent his childhood in Osgood, Indiana. He married Joyce Janet Jenkins, also of Osgood. He is proceeded in death by his father, Byron Smock, his mother Gertrude Smock, his brother Wayne Smock, and a sister, Ruth Ann Burdine. He is survived by two sisters, Karen Decker and Bonnie Grigsby. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joyce Smock, their son, Dennis Smock (Amy), his grandchildren, Kristen Williams (Russ, Henley), Branson Smock (Dr. Maria Tesas), and Matthew Smock (Lauren Dawn, Eden Elizabeth).
He spent most of his early years traveling the world because of his career in the United States Army. He was assigned to various places including South Korea, Thailand, Laos, South Vietnam and Ethiopia. He was able to take his wife, Joyce, and his son, Dennis, to assignments in West Germany and the Netherlands, as well as various locations in the United States, such as Arizona, Arkansas, North Carolina, Maryland and Georgia. Robert retired from active military after 20 plus years. His final assignment was at Fort Gordon just outside of Augusta, Georgia. They lived in the Augusta area for fifty years. In his youth, he was an avid hunter and received his marksman badge from the military. He was also an avid history buff, and the military assignments allowed him to see many things firsthand. He was especially interested in his genealogy, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WWI, WWII, and the Vietnam war. He was known for his sense of humor and his quick wit.
His later years saw him suffer the consequences from being exposed to Agent Orange, so in lieu of flowers, please donate to your local military veteran support group.
