Renowned interior designer Robert H. Sonnier passed away on August 15, 2025 in Lafayette, LA. He was 86 years old.
Born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Basile Sonnier of Rayne, LA, Robert lived much of his life in New Orleans. He attended Tulane University prior to moving to New York City to attend Parsons School of Design, and later moved to Paris to continue his studies. He was considered an expert in French, English, and Italian furniture, and a specialist in pure contemporary design. Clients appreciated his extensive knowledge and was sought after for residential and commercial spaces alike.
Survivors include his two nephews, Stephen (Rebecca) Sonnier and David (Debbie) Sonnier; and one niece, Mary (David) Eason; all of Lafayette, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelda and Basile Sonnier; one brother, Albert Sonnier; one sister-in-law, Sevelia V. Sonnier; and one nephew, Dr. Michael A. Sonnier.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
