Obituary Robert Stevenson
Robert Louis Stevenson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, great uncle and friend passed away on October 3, 2024.
Robert was born on July 5, 1927 in Kemmerer, Wyoming, to John Hendry Stevenson and Ruby Eudora Painter. He was raised in, Kemmerer, Wyoming and later in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He attended and graduated from East High School. After High School he enlisted in the army and was eventually assigned to a Motor Battalion in the Army General Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. He received an honorable discharge from the army on December 27, 1947 at the rank Sargent with an Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.
Robert married his beloved, life-long companion, Helen, on July 6, 1949. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 13, 1958.
Robert was hired at the Atomic Energy Commission for the National Reactor Testing Station on the dessert West of Idaho Falls, Idaho. He later took a position as a Health Physic, (HP) technician at Aerojet Nuclear Company, at the same location. Robert eventually became an Instrument Design Engineer and enjoyed a remaining career of designing radiation monitoring equipment.
Robert was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including Bishop. He and his wife, Helen, served a mission in the Washington Seattle Mission from December 1991 to June 1993. He loved to attend church and the temple and after the passing of his wife, in June, was so excited to be able once again to attend church in person. Recently he excitedly attended the temple with a grandson, Dallin, who will be leaving on a mission in January.
Robert served his family throughout his life while developing many talents. He always loved to create and invent solutions to any challenge around the yard or in the home. He loved to read and garden, and became an accomplished wood worker making many beautiful pieces of furniture for his home and for family members.
Robert's greatest legacy was his love of his wife, family and ever-increasing circle of friends. Robert lovingly cared for his struggling wife, Helen, for the last several years and expressed that he was only living to take care of her. Robert adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and relished their visits.
Robert loved his neighbors and was always the first to welcome anyone moving into their little community in Payson, Utah. He made sure they were loved and served.
