Robert George Sutherland, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 11, 2025. Born on October 17, 1943, in Murray, Utah, Robert lived a life devoted to service, hard work, and love for his family.
A proud graduate of Murray High School, Robert began his career serving his community in various roles. He worked in security at Holy Cross Hospital and Burns International Security before joining the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Search and Rescue, where his dedication and courage shone through. His professional legacy was most notably marked by his 44 years at Mid Valley Improvement District, where he served 30 years as General Manager. He also gave 22 years of service to the South Valley Water Reclamation Facility and 12 years to the Utah Local Government Trust.
Outside of work, Robert's greatest joys came from the outdoors and his family. He loved fishing, hunting, boating, and camping, and he treasured time spent at the family cabin in Fairview Lakes, where countless memories were made.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard, and his sister Colleen. He is survived by his loving wife, Myrna; his children Kirk (Brook), Jana (Lane), and Jeremy (Cherise); and his seven cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Ann, Duane, Shauna, and Cindy.
A viewing will be held from 10:00–10:45 a.m. at the stake center located at 2447 W 11400 S, South Jordan, Utah followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, Utah. Flowers may be sent directly to the stake center.
Robert's legacy of service, love, and laughter will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
