February 4, 1950 – June 10, 2025
Robert A. Vetsch, age 75, of St. Michael, MN passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, June 10, 2025 from Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). He was born February 4, 1950 to Ammon and Mary (Kasper) Vetsch. On October 14, 1972 Robert and Janelle Chounard were joined in holy marriage at St. Albert's Catholic Church.
Bob lived on a farm his entire life eventually owning his own. His first job was working on his grandpa Kasper's farm in the 8th grade and enjoyed farming the rest of his life. After attending welding school, he started at Minnegasco doing construction and maintenance, working up to yard operator. He was there for 26 years, then went to Cummings Mobility until retirement. Even while holding full-time work, his heart was always on the farm.
Bob, known as "Snuffer" to his friends, had a great sense of humor & loved to make others laugh by telling jokes and life stories. He was a hard worker all his life, and never complained about anything even in the later years with his illness. Bob enjoyed playing slow-pitch softball for the 152 Club, playing cards in a card club for many years with friends, Sunday fishing trips with his dad and son, watching the Vikings, and sitting on his chair in the garage listening to WCCO or the Twins game, but most of all he enjoyed farming. He was a member of the Wright County Pork Producers and grilled tasty pork chops for their events for many years. He had a passion for American history and enjoyed being quizzed on the subject almost always knowing the answer. He loved reading books including the encyclopedia (read the entire set at least 3 times).
In the later stages of his illness, he had 3 chairs that he would move to each day to watch the happenings on the farm and the road. He appreciated each and every visitor and somehow found a connection with everyone he met.
He was a faithful member of St. Michael Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years Janelle, and children: Scott Vetsch, Jody Vetsch (significant other Mark VanDale), Maria (Jacob) Cummings, all of St. Michael; grandchildren: Justin (fiancé Leah Weber) Vetsch, Kai, Dylan, Anna, Ellie & Veronica Cummings; brothers: Tom (Connie), Gordy (Laurie), Rick (Maria); sister-in-law Jeanne (Dave) Vetsch, brother-in-law: Jeff (Jane) Chounard and many relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law Dolores Chounard.
Special thanks to the staff at Moments Hospice.
