Robert D. Walters

Robert D. Walters, 88, of Edison, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024 at the Hackensack Meridian JFK University Medical Center.
Robert was born in Kingston, PA, and raised in the Torresdale section of Philadelphia. He was a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. He met his wife and started his family in Philadelphia. They moved to Metuchen, NJ in 1965 where they resided until they moved to Edison, NJ in 1986.
He worked at Burlington Industries in NYC, Franco Manufacturing in Metuchen, and owned Walters Associates in Edison. Robert was a Member and Trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen. He was heavily involved with the Boy Scouts and even helped co-create the Textile Merit Badge. He was known to many as Mr. Fix-it. He was a avid Rangers fan and enjoyed going to sports games with his grandchildren.
Robert is predeceased by his parents, David and Emma, his brother David, and his sister Marian.
Robert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geraldine (MacMichael); his 2 sons, R. Craig Walters and his wife Lauriejean of Roswell, GA and Scott A. Walters and his wife Kristine of Metuchen; 11 grandchildren, Kyle, Brian, Michael, Scott Jr., Matthew, Nicholas, Andrew, Nathaniel, Molly, Emma, and Caleb; 5 great-grandchildren, Lucas, Rocky, Ford, Shelby, and Bentley.
The viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from 6 to 8 pm at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. Metuchen.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen Youth Group/Habitat for Humanity Youth Mission Programs.
