Robert Vincent Writer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, left this world on December 7, 2024, at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and an unwavering zest for life. Born on August 3, 1938, in Los Angeles, California, Robert's journey was one marked by dedication, service, and an infectious spirit that uplifted everyone he encountered. His departure in
Orange, California, was a peaceful one, surrounded by the warmth of a family that adored him.
Robert's life was a testament to the power of love and commitment. He met the love of his life, Sharon Gail Lisle, at a high school dance. He was on the football team at Mount Carmel High School and she was on the swim team at St. Mary's High School, they dated and their brief courtship blossomed into a partnership that would endure for over 65 years. Together, they navigated life's highs and lows, their bond only strengthening with each passing year. This union was blessed with three sons, Martin, Brian, and Andrew, and their respective wives, Karen, Leah, and Ruth. These branches of the Writer family tree further extended to three grandchildren, CJ, Drew, and Hailey, who brought immense joy to Robert's life.
Though preceded in death by his cherished daughter Cynthia, Robert's legacy of love and resilience continues to inspire his family and all who knew him. His educational journey in Los Angeles laid a foundation for his ROTC scholarship at USC, leading to a distinguished commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps. His service to his country was marked by honor, discipline, and a sense of duty that he carried forward into all aspects of his life.
After serving in the Marine Corps he returned to USC where he worked in Alumni Affairs for four years. Robert then channeled his commitment to service into a successful career as an insurance agent with Allstate, where he worked for over 35 years until his retirement. His professional life was marked by integrity, a strong work ethic, and the kind of warm personality that turned clients into lifelong friends.
Robert's interests were as varied as they were vibrant. An enthusiast of the water, he relished the times spent water skiing and enjoying the serenity of Echo Lodge. While his culinary skills at the barbecue may have been the subject of friendly jest, it was his unwavering enthusiasm and willingness to laugh at himself that truly made these moments memorable.
A natural storyteller, Robert possessed the rare gift of connecting with people from all walks of life. His humor, warmth, and thoughtful nature made him not just the life of the party, but a beacon of joy in the everyday. His playful antics and jokes were the sparks that ignited laughter and camaraderie wherever he went.
Though his attempts at handiwork often led to comical outcomes, Robert's good-natured humor about these endeavors endeared him to all. He was a dreamer at heart, a man who saw life not as a series of tasks to be completed but as a canvas to be painted with the brightest of colors.
