Robert Leon Zemcik, 78, passed away on June 10, 2025, in Dunnegan, Missouri. His passing came just hours after the passing of his beloved wife, Candace Anne (Tarbell) Zemcik, marking the end of a deeply connected marriage and life journey by two devoted partners.
Born on September 24, 1946, in Crossingville, Pennsylvania, Robert was the son of Joseph and Irene (Miklovik) Zemcik. He grew up in Pennsylvania alongside his siblings Susan (Zemcik) Piland, Carolyn (Zemcik) Koschak, and Roger Zemcik. The values instilled in him during his early years-hard work, resilience, and dedication-would shape the course of his life.
Robert served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. This service to our country made an impact on his daughter to also do the same, though in the United States Army.
After his military tenure, he pursued higher education at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. It was farming that initially brought Robert and his family to Missouri-a move that would become foundational to their lives.
A skilled craftsman with an extraordinary ability to build and repair nearly anything, Robert found his calling as a residential home builder. One of his most personal projects was transforming a one-room schoolhouse into a warm family home alongside his son Steven, who he taught the construction trade.
Robert's greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved. He is survived by his son, Steven Robert Zemcik; daughter, Michelle (Zemcik) Kobus and her husband Eric, Sr; grandchildren: Joseph Robert Zemcik, Eric William Kobus Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, and Austin Caleb Kobus and his wife, Abygail; as well as great-grandchildren Emmitt Kobus and Elliott Kobus. His bother, Richard Zemcik; and a sister, Beverly Zemcik. His legacy lives on through them-in their memories, their stories, and the values he helped instill.
Woodworking was one of Robert's favorite pastimes. But above all else, it was time spent with his grandchildren that brought him the most happiness.
A joint memorial service for Robert and Candace will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania. They will be laid to rest together in their home state where their lives began.
May the memory of Robert Leon Zemcik bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life lived with purpose, skill, and love.

Was like an older brother (first cousin) to me while I was growing up. Took me fishing every spring for years. Thousands of fond memories spending time with him on the farm.
