We lost a lively and loving woman, Roberta L. (Boggs) Averell, formerly of Dormont, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. She was the beloved mother of Darlene Lovasik (Vernon) and Robert Averell. Adored grandmother of Brendan Lovasik (Kathryn) and new great-grandmother of Paige Kathryn Lovasik. She is also survived by her sister, Jeanne Boggs and brother, Lee Boggs; as well as her nieces and nephews, Jeffrey Boggs (Amy), Gregory Boggs (Barbara), and Natalie Boggs; and her cousins, Bill Bastl (Sharman) and Ronald Mackiewicz. Roberta was a 1955 graduate of Oliver High School where she was head cheerleader in her senior year. To be home for her children during the day, she began working evenings as a server. She began at Stouffer’s and her other positions included Tambellini’s Wood Street, Amel’s, and Tambellini’s in Bridgeville. She enjoyed working and continued until she retired (reluctantly) at 77. Entertaining was her forte and she hosted the family celebrations and enjoyed every minute. Roberta enjoyed babies, dining out, red wine, and traveling, especially family vacations in Stone Harbor. She was fiercely independent, a force to be reckoned with, and she credited this to her German-Irish heritage. Despite five strokes, she persisted in seeking opportunities to meet friends for lunch and family for dinner. She did not dine at fast food restaurants or food courts, nor did she consider pizza a meal. Her 88th birthday is on March 7. Darlene and Bob are grateful to the staff of Peters Township Post-Acute and Vitas Hospice for their compassionate care in her final 2 years. It was a comfort and a blessing to us during a very difficult period. We will miss her and will remember her through joyful memories.
