Roberta Lilly Carnell Smith, age 86, of Sunbury, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.
She was born on February 26, 1939, in Carter County, Kentucky, to the late Granville and Eula Carnell. In June of 1955, Roberta married Glenn Smith in Kentucky, and together they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage.
Roberta is survived by her son, Roger (Penny) Smith; granddaughters, Kimberly (Zach) Graumlich and Jeanie (Dan) Ridenour; great-grandchildren, Ellie Mae and Howie Van Ridenour. Special sisters-in-laws Ann Carnell, Charlotte Smith, Alice Smith and Dee Smith. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Smith; her brother, Junior Carnell; and her parents, Granville and Eula Carnell.
Roberta had a love for cooking and was especially known for her delicious homemade pies. Sundays were her favorite. She would prepare a big meal and welcome family and friends to gather around her table. She was an avid card player and rarely missed her weekly games, playing three times a week. Roberta enjoyed working in her flowerbeds, gardening, going to the dollar store, catching a movie, and spending quality time with her granddaughters.
A woman of faith, Roberta attended True Bible Baptist Church, where she found joy in fellowship and worship. She was also a proud member of The Eagles.
Above all, Roberta was deeply family-oriented. Her proudest accomplishments were the meals she prepared and the beautiful flowerbeds she tended.
