Rocky Lee Rains, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on February 9, 2024. Born on August 31, 1955, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Rocky brought joy and laughter to the lives of those around him. His passing is mourned by many, but his memory will forever be cherished.
Rocky led a fulfilling life that was marked by his dedication to his family and his work. After graduating from Flour Bluff High School in 1973, he embarked on a successful career. Rocky retired from H & S Constructors and left behind a legacy of hard work and professionalism.
Although Rocky was accomplished in his career, it was his personal life where he truly shined. He had an infectious love for country dancing and was known for strumming a guitar on his dance partner’s back while twirling across the dance floor. His passion for music brought joy to countless evenings spent with friends and loved ones.
Nature held a special place in Rocky's heart. He found solace in feeding his deer and enjoyed the tranquility of sitting by the firepit, sharing stories with those closest to him. Rocky's BBQ skills were legendary; whether it was cooking briskets at home or competing in cookoffs, he was always eager to serve mouthwatering meals to family and friends.
In addition to these hobbies, Rocky was an excellent marksman who excelled at skeet shooting and target practice. He found great pleasure in playing billiards, hunting, and fishing, relishing the time spent outdoors surrounded by nature's beauty. A fan of Western movies and tales. Those closest to him knew how much he loved his silver bullets and safety meetings.
However, above all else, spending time with loved ones brought Rocky the greatest joy. He treasured every moment with his wife of many years, Christi Rains. Their love was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Rocky is preceded in death by his parents Farrell and Nettie Rains, as well as his brothers Darrell Rains (Paulette) and Donnie Rains, his father-in-law Buddy Thorne (Patsy), mother-in-law Carol Thorne, nephew Mitchell Price, and bonus son Jared Franklin. Their memories will forever be intertwined with his.
He is survived by his wife Christi Rains, his son, Jeremy Rains, and daughter Niki Rains-Calloway (Bryan) and bonus daughter Brittney Franklin-Rodriguez (Roland), grandchildren Nettie Brock, T.J. Creek, Jaylee Rains, Bentley Rodriguez (bonus grandchild), and great-grandchild Nova Baca, sisters-in-law Tresa Rains, Betsy Blumberg (Frank), Leann Moreno (Alex), Dena Solis (Silvester Jr.), and Sharilyn Jordan, along with various nieces and nephews. His surviving family members and friends will treasure Rocky's memory.
To honor Rocky's life and celebrate the joy he brought to everyone he encountered, a memorial service will be held on March 2, 2024. The service will take place at Sawyer-George Funeral Home located at 12497 Leopard St in Corpus Christi. Family and friends are invited to come together from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM to pay their respects and share cherished memories.
A celebration of life will immediately follow at Vicks Place, 7136 FM 666 in Mathis, Texas 78368.
As we say goodbye to Rocky Lee Rains in this physical realm, we take solace knowing that his spirit lives on through the love he shared with us all. May we remember him for the laughter he brought into our lives and the kindness that radiated from his soul. Rocky's spirit will forever dance among the stars as he strums an eternal guitar on his belly.
