Roger D. Brown, Sr., age 79 of New Lenox, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family at his side. Survived by his wife of 20 years, Betty (nee Haynes) McCure, his children Richard (Michele) Brown, Barb Backhus, Matthew McCure and Scott (Jennifer) McCure, his grandchildren Kayla (Scot) Coleman, Daniel (Ashley) Brown, Jacob Brown, and Randall (Morgan) Brown, his great grandchildren Jaiden, Kahleia, Haylie, Kylee, and Georgia, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, neighbors and friends, special friend Carman Brown, and his faithful canine companion "Billy". Preceded in death by his parents Charles and Lucy (nee Potter) Brown, his first wife Pauline (nee Violet) Brown (2005), his sons Roger Dale Brown Jr. and Ronald D. Brown, his granddaughter Kendal Brown, 6 sisters and 4 brothers. Roger was a graduate of Joliet Township High School, and he attended Joliet Junior College. Roger was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran serving his country during the Vietnam War. After the service he was a volunteer fire fighter for Joliet East Fire District and he held positions at Stepan Chemical, Caterpillar, Olin Chemical and was a talented machinist. Roger also owned and operated his own drywall business "B & D Construction" for several years. Roger enjoyed gardening and keeping up his beautiful lawn. He also enjoyed making the daily pot of coffee, cooking and grilling and was known to be quite the "foodie". Roger and Betty had recently relocated to their home in New Lenox a mere 4 years ago, yet Roger quickly became the neighborhood helper and handyman, and he and the neighbors quickly became friends. When Roger wasn't out sprucing up the lawn or helping out a friend, he could be found in a nice quiet spot fishing. A loving husband, father, Papa, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial visitation for Roger will take place on September 3, 2025 from 10am-1pm at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Manhattan. Funeral service will take place the same day at 1pm also at the funeral home. A procession to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood for a committal service with full military honors will immediately follow. Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State St., Manhattan, IL 60442, 815-478-3321, www.forsythegouldfh.com.
