Roger Elscott, 69 of New Sharon passed away Thursday evening, May 29, 2025 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. A private family graveside service will be held in the Stewart Cemetery near Taintor. A Visitation/Luncheon will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at the McVay Center in New Sharon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to in the family's name or the New Sharon Food Pantry. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.
Roger Gene Elscott, the son of Elmer and Cleora (McMains) Elscott, was born on March 16, 1956 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He graduated from North Mahaska High School with the class of 1974. Roger married to Sheila Wolver on June 19, 1982. To this union two daughters were born Mallerie Caye and Kelsey Gean. They later divorced. Roger worked for Manatts, DeJong Farm Service and then Taintor COOP where he worked for several years. On August 6, 1999, Roger was united in marriage to Katherine (Revell) Kelso.
Roger enjoyed figure 8 racing his car number 71, supporting his son in law number 32 car as his crew chief, NASCAR, mowing and pushing snow, tinkering in his shed, attending his grandkids activities, camping, Midwest Old Threshers Reunion, volunteering at the New Sharon Historical Museum and recently New Sharon Food Pantry and most of all he enjoyed visiting with family and friends teasing them every chance he got. Roger also enjoyed volunteering at the North Mahaska FFA Farm and Home Show, served on the FFA Advisory Board for several years and was a former member of the Lynnville Saddle Club.
Roger's legacy will be honored by his wife, Kathy of New Sharon; his daughters, Mallerie Elscott of Lynnville and Kelsey (Brent) Bardwell of Searsboro; his mother, Cleora Hartmann; his grandchildren, Hayden, Aubrey, Gunner, Jaxson and Ryleigh; two sisters, Marilyn (Dale) Williams and Maxine Van Wyk; his step sons, Ryan (Marissa) Kelso and David (Jen) Kelso; many step grandchildren along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Elscott on Dec. of 1974; a nephew, Cory Van Wyk; a niece, Laci Weter along with maternal grandparents, Floyd and Pearl McMains and Paternal Grandparents, John and Maggie Elscott.
