Roger W. Young, 77, of Merrill, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025, at his home, with a very saddened heart, but he got his wish he got to pass away at home with his family.

Roger was born March 10, 1948, and was the son of John and Mildred (Mason) Young. Roger had worked at the Neenah Foundry for several years. He was blessed with 5 children under 6 years of age, Mark, Heather, Matthew, Jessica and Nicole. There wasn’t anything he would not do to help anybody that needed it. Roger was a very simple man, who didn’t complain; that was his nature, loving his grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Above all, Roger loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a very giving man and was still very active. Roger was around his family, even while confined to his hospital bed in his living room for the past 7 years. His legs had to be amputated due to degenerate rheumatoid arthritis that he had developed at the age of 27 years old. Even though he was very crippled from this disease, he was always very active with his family, many friends and caregivers. When Roger was younger, he was very involved in foster care with his wife. He was loved by many and had the most amazing doctors caring for him.

He enjoyed playing cards, playing cribbage, football and trips to the casino, as well as all of his dogs. He enjoyed playing on his tablet with his daughter, Heather, every day and all of the get togethers that life brought his way. He liked watching WWF Wrestling and the Western Channel. His favorite western show was ‘Gunsmoke’.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Young, and their children, Mark A. Young, Heather J. Young (Chris Kersten), Matthew Young, Jessica M. Young, and Nicole L. (Mike) Downs, all of Merrill; grandchildren, Sierra Kersten (Cole McKinney), Adam Kersten, Lawson Kersten, Kyle Howard-Young, Xander Howard-Young (Ariana Raddatz), Brandon Downs and Marvin Downs; and great-grandchildren, Elikai and Isabella. Roger is also survived by his brother, James (Sandy) Young of Menasha, their children, Dawn (Tim) Rippl and their daughter Kaylie, Jason (Suzie) Young and their children Veronica, Jacob, and Abby, and Renee (Steven) Euclide and their children Ethan, Jasmine, and Faith; brother-in-law, Quinn Hyde and his children. Roger leaves behind several great friends, Chris Bengle, Pat Jansen, Brad Allen, and Linda Blair also survive.

Roger was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Young; father and step-mother, John Young; sister, Ellen Hyde; and brother, Donald Young; and best friend, Richard Blair.

A celebration of Roger’s life will take place at a later date.
