Roger Dennis Zimmerman, aged 87, passed away on October 2, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. Born on April 18, 1938, Roger was known for his adventurous spirit, love for nature, and his wonderful sense of humor. Roger graduated from Carlisle High School in 1956 as Valedictorian and furthered his education at Texas A&M, where he earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. He was immediately recruited by Union Carbide in Victoria, Texas, where he worked until his retirement in 2001.
Throughout his life, Roger pursued various hobbies with passion. He was an avid photographer, bird watcher, canoe and kayaker, camper, and a collector of coins, stamps and guns. He also loved to travel. He also participated in the Texas Water Safari for many years. His last race was 2018 at age 80 where he set a record.
Roger is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeanette Fain Beatty Zimmerman; children, Deborah Lageman (John), Lesa Carsten (Rodger), Jennifer Hardy (Wes), and Mary Zimmerman (Dan); sister Linda Lynes; grandchildren, Amanda Dillon, Lana Cagle, Carmen McCarrell, Shelby Martinez, Juliet Hardy, Kathryn Hardy, River McKay, and Raeyn McKay; 11 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Howard James Zimmerman and Mary Melinda Eaton; brothers, Howard, Russell, and Stanley Zimmerman.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2025 at the Evergreen Memorial Park in Crockett, Texas with Pastor Leon Wallace officiating.
