Rolf Eberhardt Kunze, 88, our beloved Father passed away, surrounded by family, on September 11, 2022. Born to Ida Anna and Eberhardt Kunze February 25, 1934 in Germany. Rolf, in his younger years, taught college classes in Berlin, also worked as a CPA and in his spare time raced the first formula1 cars. In 1956 he took the greatest risk of his life, with only a briefcase in hand, and made the journey to the United States. He ultimately ended up in Alhambra California, and opened his first business, a TV repair shop. Next door, he met his soon to be wife of 25 years, Edith Ann Stinson. They welcomed three children, Heidi Porter, Patricia Kunze, and son Ralph Kunze, who were all the light of his life. Together they raised their family in West Covina, California.
Rolf expanded his career and worked at Bateman Eichler for several years. Rolf was an entrepreneur at heart, he had many businesses, TV repair, book keeper, power washing, flower shop and medical supplies to name a few.
Rolf was very frugal and lived a simple life. He had a love for anything nautical and loved Catalina Islands. He had a sweet tooth and would choose his restaurants based on their pie selection. His grandchildren fondly remember baking oatmeal raison cookies and mailing them to him as a surprise.
Rolf is proceeded in death by his parents, Ida and Eberhart Kunze and his ex-wife of 25 years Edith Ann Kunze. He is survived by his brother, Hans Kunze, daughters Heidi Porter and Patricia Kunze, his son Ralph Kunze and his wife Emilie. His grandchildren Cody Porter, Ashley Bird and her husband Cody, Corey Kunze, Madisyn Kunze and Julianna Kunze and his great-grand children Hunter and Colt Bird.
Memorial donations may be made in Rolf's name to Catalina Island Conservancy.
