Ronald Ecken Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - East Louisville on Aug. 29, 2024.
Ronald J. Ecken, 73, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024. In a final act of generosity, Ron donated his corneas, giving the gift of sight to others in need.
Born on February 2, 1951, to Robert and Mary G. Ecken, Ron dedicated nearly fifty years to his profession as a Certified Public Accountant. He began his distinguished career as a partner with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) from 1983 to 1991. He continued his journey as a partner at Ecken & Smith, PSC from 1991 to 2017, before concluding his professional endeavors with Strothman & Co. until his retirement in 2020.
Ron was a proud graduate of DeSales High School and Bellarmine College and also attended St. Louis University. A testament to his dedication and expertise, he sat for the CPA exam in November 1973, passing the entire exam on his first attempt and earning the highest scores in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ron was deeply committed to his community. He served on the Board of Directors for the Cerebral Palsy School, Independent Industries, Inc., Goodwill Industries of Kentuckiana, and the Kentucky Society of CPAs. His love for sports and youth development led him to coach Little League baseball in Middletown and Lyndon for over a decade.
Ron had a passion for life, whether on the golf course or beneath the waves while scuba diving. His joy and zest for life were felt by all who knew him.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Don; his niece, Eileen; and his brother-in-law, Ronald "Hondo" Webb.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of over 50 years and high school sweetheart, Mary; his brother, Pat (Robin); his sisters, Debbie Kennedy (Rick) and Cindy Webb; his two sons, Chris and John (Colleen); as well as numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Ron was especially proud of his grandchildren-Logan, Aidan, Dylan, and Annika-each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Visitation will be from 1:00pm-5:00pm, Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Ratterman Brothers East Louisville, 12900 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40243, with a funeral service to follow to 5pm.

I was saddened by the passing of Ron. He was a partner of mine at Coopers & Lybrand. Ron was an excellent CPA and very personable man. My sympathy to his family.
