It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ronald W. Hassebrock on January 11, 2025, at the age of 80. Ron was born on April 21, 1944, in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He graduated from Ladue High School in St. Louis, Missouri, and earned his bachelor's degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Ron's career journey began in his early years, working alongside his family, where he developed a deep-rooted work ethic. He became a driving force in the family businesses, helping to expand and grow through his tireless efforts. This led him to build, partly own, and operate the Ramada Inn in South Point, Ohio. Ron's dedication to his work and community made a lasting impact. He would often run into former employees who would hug and thank him for his generosity and positive influence, which extended far beyond the walls of the Ramada Inn.
After years of dedication to the hospitality industry, Ron moved to Bettendorf, Iowa, where he and Jane built a Shoney's Restaurant and became franchisees. Following his time in the restaurant business, Ron moved to Kentucky, where he entered the home improvement industry. He joined Champion Windows and later used his entrepreneurial instincts to start Windows Express in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ron found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially at Lake Cumberland. Each summer, he treasured the time spent boating, kayaking, and fishing with his daughter Julie, son-in-law Dane, and grandchildren Dane Ryan and Jordan. From time to time, his brother John and nephew David would also join him at a nearby lake. Though he often claimed to be a fisherman, his patience for the sport was limited. He had the rods, reels, and every imaginable lure, but he preferred the company over the catch. These lakeside moments were the highlight of his year, where he shared the love of the water with his family.
At home, Ron was always tinkering-fixing, building, or maintaining something. Whether it was changing the oil on a lawnmower or splitting wood for the fireplace, his curiosity and hands-on projects never faded, even until the month he became ill. His neighbors would agree that he was a hard one to keep up with. He was always there to lend a helping hand and offer
unsolicited advice about most subjects.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Jane; daughter, Julie (Dane) Wilson; grandchildren, Dane Ryan and Jordan (Zach); and his great-grandson, Indiana. He is also survived by his brothers Stan and Bob, and his sister Susan. Also mourning his passing is his sweet dog, Sadie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Melvin, and his brothers, John and Craig.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to CenterWell Home Health, 105 Citation Drive, Danville, KY 40422, or Heritage Hospice, PO Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422. A celebration of Ron's life will take place at a later date.
Care Cremation and Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with final care.
