Ronald Gail Hegre, age 79, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny, IA. Ronald was born to parents Gustav and Hazel (Parcel) Hegre on March 6, 1945 in Cherokee, IA where he was one of 10 children. He served 2 years in the Vietnam War. In life, he was passionate about sports, his family, and his church. Ronald followed the Cherokee Braves sports team all of his life.
Ron married April, and they divorced in 1976. Three children were born into this marriage - Glenn, Eugene, and Candy Lynn (Mikki Leigh). He then married Darla Jordan in 1998. Darla passed away on July 4, 2013.
Ronald is survived by his children, Glenn (Candy) Hegre Sr, and Eugene Hegre; sisters, Eilene Grim, Cecelia Markowski, Roseann McCann, Debbie (Tim) Johnson, and Carla (Mark Ochanpaugh) Hegre; sister-in-law, Garnet Hegre; mother of his children, April; numerous nieces and nephews; and many grandchildren, Glenn Hegre Jr, Morgan Judge, Mason Judge, Lyla DiGiacomo, Damon-Colton Price, Cody Degroot, Megan Carvajal, William Degroot, and Jayden Degroot.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Darla; parents, Gustav and Hazel Hegre; brother, Glenn Hegre; and daughter, Candy (Mikki); and three sisters, Evelene Hegre, Gloria Manusos, and Mary Ellen Evans.
Graveside service and burial will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, June 17, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7201 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321 with a visitation one hour prior, at 9:00 am.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family of Ronald Hegre.
