Ronald E. Helms, 81, peacefully departed this world on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Central Ohio Hospice in Columbus, Ohio.
Born to Robert E. and Elizabeth Richmond Helms of Moundsville, WV, Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Robert and James "Jim" Helms. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Isolde Helms, two sisters, Phyllis Woods, and Joan Young, and three cherished daughters: Maria Clyde and her husband Mike, Gina Moran and her husband Bill, and Michele Helms. Ronald leaves behind five adored grandchildren: Anthony Montes and his wife Lauren Montes, Andrew Montes and girlfriend Maria "M" Kahan, Alexis Pierro and her husband Anthony, and Seth and Kira Nardo.
Ronald was born on March 8, 1942. He proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany, where he met the love of his life, Isolde. Upon returning home to Moundsville, WV, he dedicated years of service as a conductor/brakeman with the B&O/CSX Railroad, retiring in 2002.
An avid and locally renowned golfer in the Ohio Valley, Ronald spent countless days at Bec-Wood Hills Golf Course with his beloved golf buddies. One of his most significant achievements was being inducted into the Ohio Valley Legends of Golf Hall of Fame. If you knew Ronald, you knew he was always at the Golf Course!
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 23rd from 2pm until the time of the funeral service to honor Ronald's life at 4pm at Grisell's Funeral Home, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, with the Moundsville Honor Guard providing military services. A celebration of life will be held in Summer of 2024 by his family.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ronald's memory to the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
