Ronald D. “Ron” Herrington, 91, of Humboldt, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Clarion Wellness & Rehabilitation Center in Clarion.
Ron was born February 15, 1934 in Lehigh, Iowa the son of Delbert and Lucille (Lumsden) Herrington. He grew up in Burnside and graduated from Burnside High School in 1951. Following high school he worked for Tobin Packing until enlisting in the United States Navy in 1953. He was stationed in California and later Hawaii and while home on leave was united in marriage to Marge M. Lathrop on October 16, 1955 in Burnside. Following his discharge in 1957, the couple returned to Iowa and eventually moved to Humboldt. He started with Hormel on his return and spent 32 years there until the Fort Dodge plant was closed. Ron went on to work for Jensen Lumber in Humboldt, later the Frame Shop and then Sanofi. He particularly enjoyed woodworking and helping others. As his family was growing he enjoyed camping trips to the western United States and gardening both vegetables and flowers.
Ron is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marge of Humboldt, his daughters; Michelle (Leslie) Moore of Waterloo, Deanne (Kurt) Johnson of Gravity, Iowa and Stacey (Joseph) Keller of Clarion, his grandchildren; Justine Johnson, Michael Johnson, Natalie (Jon) Moore, Joey (Candace) Keller, Jon (Lynette) Keller and Jenna (Grant) Booth and his great-grandchildren; Judah, Cami, Quincy, Jack, Harper, Everett, Lois, Carmen, Ronnie and Landri. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Susan, grandson Eddie and brothers Donald and Jack.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24th at Oak Hill Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. at the church Monday. Military honors will be conducted by the Sathers-Odgaard VFW & American Legion. Burial will be later in the Dayton Cemetery, Dayton.
